Environmental systems management is one of the most critical elements in delivering high-quality data center services. At VeriCenter, we take environmental systems management very seriously, and we have invested heavily in people, programs, policies, and procedures to ensure top performance from these systems. We understand that it is simply unacceptable to operate mission-critical computer equipment without reliable environmental systems to provide the right protection and foundation for these systems. VeriCenter’s environmental systems management program ensures that all the necessary ingredients are in place, are highly available, and are managed around the clock to perpetually deliver the right atmosphere for mission-critical computer technology.
Electrical Power
Electrical power starts with high-capacity utility service terminations, including diverse and redundant delivery paths where available. This primary electrical power is backed up by multiple stand-by generators, capable of powering more than 100% of all aspects of the data center’s electrical loads. Generators are fitted to high-volume fuel storage systems with enough onsite fuel to power the facility for a minimum of 72 continuous hours. VeriCenter has national contracts in place to ensure fuel delivery to any location 24x7, enabling uninterrupted long-term electrical power for continuous operation if need be. Downstream from the electrical power sources are high-end UPS systems (in 2N or N+1 architectures) that condition the power and provide battery backup for all short-term electrical disruptions. Full-service maintenance programs performed by equipment manufacturers ensure that all components are tested and operating normally. The bottom line is you get a 100% power SLA from VeriCenter.
Cooling Systems
Data center cooling systems are just as critical as complex power systems and, therefore, are engineered with the same level of hardening and resiliency. Cooling plants with fully redundant towers, chillers, and pumps, in addition to N+1 distributed CRAC units within the data center, provide controlled temperature, humidity, and air flow. Onsite mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) personnel perform regular inspections, and full-service maintenance programs performed by equipment manufacturers, or third-party representatives of manufacturers, ensure that all components are tested and operating normally. VeriCenter has significant experience accommodating high-density implementations and is prepared to demonstrate flexibility in pursuit of special customer cooling needs.
Early Warning Alarm Systems
Fire suppression - All computer room environments are equipped with multi-zoned dry pipe and/or FM-200® gas extinguishing systems. Distributed detectors and sensors provide real-time reporting of any abnormal condition and will trigger a series of alarm escalations based on severity. Recurring assessments and certifications are performed frequently by local authorized fire suppression system technicians.
VESDA™ – Very Early Sensing and Detecting Apparatus systems provide distributed sensing throughout the computer rooms, sniffing the air and giving early notification of any abnormal condition that may exist.
Leak detection – Liquid-sensing tape or rope applied to the lowest level of flooring and around all liquid-containing equipment and piping systems provide immediate awareness of the presence of a liquid where it is not supposed to be.
BMS - Building Management Systems monitor and report on all environmental system elements, components, and conditions, including ambient conditions, in real-time, and provide full logging capability. BMS enables historical trending for performance and capacity management and maintenance records analysis.
